Rattling in My Head
Yes, it has been forever since I posted on this blog. Like the three of you regular readers care.
Anyway, a few things floating in my head for now….
1. This is my first post in a couple of months and probably my last until after the holidays. I’m totally swamped right now between work and finals. Figured today I could afford a few minutes to update this. Once finals are over I’ve got a week until we leave for Disney World for Christmas. So naturally this blog will be the last thing on my mind that week.
2. Part of the reason I’m swamped, of course, is because I’ve been at a new job since the beginning of November. Quite an adjustment being back to working away from the house (man, working in one’s boxers was nice) and going to school at the same time (man, going to school in one’s boxers was nice. Kidding. No, really, I am kidding). On the plus side, I found out just how grossly underpaid I was at a company that shall remain nameless since a few of you still work there.
3. In other news, as everyone who hasn’t been living under a rock knows, the New Jersey Supreme Court decided that the state constitution requires that gay couples are entitled to the same rights and responsibilities as straight couples. However, they did say the legislature can create civil unions instead, provided that in New Jersey we homo couples have the same rights and responsibilities. The legislature has 180 days to implement either/or, and the conventional wisdom is that it will be civil unions. It will be interesting down the line to see whether such “separate but equal” status holds up. Of course, this is really so much semantic crap anyway, since marriage in any state is a civil union.
*UPDATE* - The BlueJersey blog has an awesome marriage vs. civil unions paraody of the Mac commercials I love so much. Check it out.
As a side note, it’s going to be a LONG while before we’ll be having a ceremony, so don’t expect an invitation in your mailbox anytime soon.
4. The Democrats now control Congress. ‘Nuff said.
5. Finally, John Bolton announced that he will resign when his recess appointment expires. Politics aside, all I can say is thank god. The man has a well-established reputation as being an a$$hole. Whether or not one agrees with him about the UN, I simply don’t think it’s a good idea to have an a$$hole representing us on the world stage. It’s the diplomacy, stupid.
Happy Holidays to everyone. Be safe, be blessed, be thankful, and see you in January.

Great to see you posting again, Mike (and yes, I’m still one of the three regular readers).
I’m still a bit depressed about your #4, but, alas, I shall survive. One of my close friends is a Senate Committee Intern for the Democrats, and this opens up a lot of great job opportunities for her. I keep reminding myself of that silver lining, lol.
Hope you’re enjoying the job!
i can see there would be a huge adjustment from going from being a lady of leisure to “work(ing) hard for the money…so hard for the money”
